Brooke is a beautiful 2 year old neutered girl, who came to us after she unexpectedly attacked the 11 year old male Cocker that she had been living with for 9 months, up until that point they had been great friends, she was also living with her male sibling and has been fine with him, but after this attack we had her moved into a local kennel to be assessed.
Even though this seemed to be a one off incident while she’s been in this home, we will only rehome Brooke as an only dog to stop this from happening again, because her owner has no idea why this happened.
Her breeder couldn’t help and suggested that they euthanise Brooke.
Brooke had been wonderful up until this, her owner describes her as having a lovely nature, a loving girl, full of beans with a great recall, fine with other dogs and good off lead, who loves to play ball games.
Natalie one of the team has been to meet Brooke at the kennels and said that she was a big powerful girl at 30kg, who loved to play with her ball and bring it back to you. She is fit and well proportioned and very elegant covering ground like a dream. She refused a treat after initial introductions, but then did take them gently. She also showed a good level of obedience with sit, down, paw, around to side, heals to a treat off lead, will stay while you move away and throw a dummy, she is strong on lead so Natalie used a Gencon to help with the pulling.
she was unresponsive to school children, horses and another dog they met out on a walk, which is great.
Brooke has been left for several hours at home with the two males and has been fine except for the occasional bark. She has been fine around livestock and all the children that she’s met including their 1 year old granddaughter.
Her owners daughter has worked on Brooke’s recall and she recalls very well to the whistle, she has also introduced her to Canicross which Brooke really took to, she either sleeps in her crate at night or on the adult daughter’s bed with her GSP brother.
Brooke can be wary of meeting new men, but after a few moments and some tasty treats she quickly trusts them. She is a great traveller and will quickly lay down and snooze quietly.
