Archie

Origin: UK / Age: 11 Years

September 2025

Stunning Archie turned 11 in July, he’s a happy lad who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own.
His owners are moving abroad and Archie isn’t a fan of the heat or cities, so we are looking for an active home for this gorgeous lad.
His owners explain that Archie would not be suited for a home with cats or other small animals e.g. rabbits because he has a strong prey drive. He has suffered with pancreatitis in the past (sign of an attack is vomiting green bile) and he has a digestive absorption issue so he is now fed an hypoallergenic kibble which has resolved all of his symptoms for the past few years.
He does not like being examined especially by the Vets. (he is fine being petted etc but is able to sense
if you are examining a particular part of him) He will happily put on a muzzle and we have used one at the vets for years.
Archie has had a tumour removed from the back of his mouth – 2018, he has also had a number of fatty suspect tumours removed that would likely have impacted future mobility (all tumours removed were found to be benign) he does still have a few fatty lumps that aren’t concerning the vet.
His hearing is fine, but he is starting to not see as clearly as he used to in dim light (doesn’t spot the squirrels he used to on early morning walks). Vet investigated and isn’t worried by his eyes.
They also say that he has developed a habit of drinking a large amount of water after his evening meal and will then need access to the garden approx. 30 mins to an hour after. When he’s left alone he is happy to snooze, his owner works from home so he does have company but is also fine to be left for a few hours downstairs.
He has been walked since he was 16 weeks or so by the same dog walker – currently 2x per week and since Dec 2024 has been walking with a new walker in addition as part of a pack of 5-6 dogs. He also meets a number of dogs on his walks that he socialises with. He has previously been attacked by a German Shepard which needed vet treatment so since then he has been alert against this breed. His owners don’t allow Archie to freely approach any dog on
lead but where dogs are off lead then he will interact with them. With livestock he will chase given the opportunity.
Archie is living with young children 7 and 3 years, with no issues the owners don’t allow the children to climb on him etc. he has been very happy to interact with the children, especially the youngest.
He’s not really encountered many older children other than when out and about with no issue.
Archie is whistle trained (2short + 1 long
for recall. 1 long for “Sit”). Also comes to “Archie Come”. Will sit – verbal command and / or
hand signal at distance to allow bikes etc to pass, he will also wee on command. Archie is also ball mad so they use a squeaky kong ball as an additional way to overcome any prey drive/attraction to runners etc when they want to get his attention away from something. He will instantly come when the ball is
squeaked, they do not allow him to have free access to the balls (he shreds them in minutes if left alone with them)
He has only been to a traditional kennel once and it
wasn’t a positive experience. so they have since used sitters that either stay at the home or Archie stays in theirs. The current sitter has 2 collies which he gets on with.
His owner explains, we brough Archie home at 12
weeks and he has been our loyal faithful companion since then. In our 1st home he would happily curl up on top of one of us on the sofa in the evening; he likes to think he is a little lap dog which at 26kg or so he isn’t. But he does manage to curl up into the smallest ball. We have done lots of activities with Archie over the years. He loved doing agility and flyball and
we spent some time training with the northwest HPR group and even now he loves hunting a training dummy in long grass/scrub that has been thrown for him. He used to sneak upstairs and we often found him asleep on our bed. We moved in 2019
following the birth of our 1st child and since then haven’t allow him on the sofas however he does have a wingback armchair that is his bed in the kitchen. He loves going for long walks especially to somewhere with new smells and places to explore. Equally he loves walking down the canal and often will take the opportunity to jump in to swim and chase ducks… or any stick that he thinks he carry. We have notices that these walks do take it out of him more
than it used to and he will spend a large amount of time sleeping after we go out. Archie also loves sunbathing in the garden and spends lots of time in the summer laying in the sun.
We have never directly given him human food but regularly supplement his kibble with raw veg. His favourites are frozen peas. And if we get a bag of carrots out of the fridge then he will run over until he gets one for himself and then promptly runs outside to eat it – word of
warning its best to let him outside otherwise you will find there is bits of carrot everywhere. He also likes most green veg + eggshells. He can be a bit of a pest at the dinner table having
being around whilst 2 children have been weening. – more looking to spot what’s been dropped rather than taking directly. He will try to help himself to things left on the counter tops and is
adept at using his long legs.
Archie can still act like a 2-year-old belaying his age. We can hear him in the mornings when he first becomes aware that someone is awake and will wait by the kitchen door to greet the
1st person. He is then very excited and will spin in circles as we get to the back door to let him
out. Equally he still loves playing with toys and having a cuddle. If I sit on the floor in our lounge he will routinely try and sit on top of me or lay on the ground and try to wrestle.
Archie would thrive in a home where he has access to a decent size garden and lots of open space to explore on walks – we do not routinely walk on a lead for any distance before he is
allowed off lead to exercise.
Archie is currently in the Cheshire area and will be rehomed with his 5 weeks free Agria Insurance and his Adoption Contract.
If you feel that you can offer this lovely lad an active home with lots of attention please contact us.
