Gorgeous George has just turned 3 years old, he is a lovely boy who was adopted a year ago by this family but they have now realised that George isn't fully comfortable with their boys. In his previous home, he lived with a 10 year old little girl who he adored, they think she was probably quieter and calmer than the boys. They believe George has struggled to adjust to the energetic and rough play from their 8 and 10 year old boys, and there have been times when he's expressed his discomfort especially with the younger son who hasn’t always understood the consequences to his actions around George and they feel it's not fair to put George in a situation where he’s unhappy, and they worry about the potential consequences if he reacts negatively to their behaviour by snapping.
George has separation anxiety and doesn't like being left alone he has been left for 30 mins but longer than that he can bark and howl, they've been working on this with him and have seen improvements.
He has a lot of energy and doesn't like standing still, especially at the boys' football matches, where he gets very excited when meeting new people. He prefers to be at the front during walks and will bark and pull on the lead to get there. When new people come into the house, George tends to run around them, jump up, and mouth their hand. He’s never shown aggression, just lots of excitement.
George loves his walks and chasing a ball they have a ball throwing arm and he will chase after a thrown ball happily and bring it back. He will tell you when he is done by sitting about 6ft away from you chewing the ball. George generally gets along with other dogs, but there are at least three dogs in the area he doesn't like, including two Huskies and a Black Labrador, and he will growl at them. When on the lead, he is curious about other dogs but will bark back if they bark at him. Off-lead, he plays and chases local dogs, and when he’s comfortable with a dog, he’ll wag his tail. He’s curious about cats, but has always been kept on the lead when encountering them. He hasn’t interacted with livestock whilst in this home so controlled introductions would be needed. George has a good recall unless he spots a squirrel, in which case he’ll chase it but always comes back, he never ventures far.
While not a traditional kennel, he has stayed overnight at a dog sitter and they were told that he was a lovely dog and no issue with any other dogs there. He follows commands like Sit, Stop, Stay, Paw, and Walk On, and will stop and sit to cross the road 90% of the time. He does respond to a whistle and is generally fine with car journeys, although he can be a bit nervous at first. The longest journey they’ve done with him was 2.5 hours, with breaks, and he was fine. On shorter trips, he stays seated looking out the back window.
