June 2024
Beautiful Indie is 2 years of age, her owners and breeder contacted us to help find her a new home because sadly the 12 year old female that she’s been very happily living with has decided that they are no longer compatible and has started over the last few months, snapping and going for Indie. This has been upsetting for the family because the attacks don’t appear to have an obvious trigger, which is a worry when they have three young children who are used to being around the two dogs and with the randomness of the attacks it’s a very stressful situation when the children don’t understand what could happen.
The 12 year olds health has been checked by a vet and she is healthy so there’s no change in pain levels or health. Etc
Her owners say that, Indie is an energetic, loyal and loving GSP. Being a pointer she obviously loves her walks and responds really well to training. We have been doing agility with her from a young age which she loves and is already very capable at. She is more than happy to go for a run and can run well on a harness (cani-cross).
Once Indie’s daily routine has ended she is happy to curl up on the sofa in the evening.
Indie really loves the beach!
Being a young pointer she also loves to play and will prompt you when she is ready for a game of tug or chase.
Indie has a generally good recall and is whistle trained but still needs some work when she see’s something of high interest!
Indie does not like over boisterous dogs but will run and play happily with a gentle, polite dog once confident and when she has had enough she will let the other dog know and move on.
Up until the last few months she had lived well with our older GSP and is keen to play and wind her up (which doesn’t help the situation!).
She has up until now been good at being left for no longer than 4 hours so long as she has had her walk and left with enrichment. Now not being left in the same room as the other dog she has started to bark when left. She doesn’t like being left alone for long periods and wouldn’t suit a home where the owner is out at work all day.
Now to dislikes. Indie has a bit of a fear of anything that moves past her closely at speed. This includes runners or people on skates (scooters, skateboards etc) and will bark at them if they come near. She is responding well to training and is more than comfortable moving past them at the right distance.
She is good with people she knows but some strangers (particularly tall men) she might bark at as she is still a bit unsure.
The family have been working on this issue and Indie has been responding well to training and building her confidence around cyclists etc. which is very positive. Indie does have skin allergies due to a dust mite allergy. She is on a monthly allergy injection for maintenance but may need additional medication if she has flare ups, food allergies were ruled out from a food trial.
Every 8 weeks or so her ears became inflamed, she scratches and bites her feet. They are treating this with mostly allergy injections to help build up immunity. She is currently on oral medication daily too but they are hoping this will stop once the injections start to work.
She has no other health concerns and she is a healthy weight.
Indie will chase cats.
Livestock: She has attended a sheep training day but this is still a work in progress like with most GSPs. She has previously chased deer so Is to be kept on lead if livestock are a concern.
Indie is very good around children, she lives with three aged 3-8 years shes very loving and will often rest her head on their lap. But being a youngster she is still boisterous and will charge around at full speed. She enjoys training and learning new things with the 8 year old, but will still try and take his football when he’s playing with it which is a typical youngster joining in.
At the start of her walk Indie can pull so she wears a Gencon which helps, by the end of the walk she is much better, she has a good recall to whistle and voice. Not 100% but reliable without big distractions.
Indie is a happy girl who is eager to please and we believe would like to live with another dog and older children who had interests in training and even doing agility with her. She is showing signs of separation anxiety while having to be separated from their other female at the moment and hopefully this would settle back down either with people who are around or a canine companion for company. She is vaccinated until Feb 2025, has had regular flea and worm treatments, she loves being in their van and is happy to travel anywhere with the family, she has also stayed in kennels with their older female and is more recently being walked by a dog walker which she really enjoys.
Indie is currently in the Hereford area and will be rehomed with her Agria 5 weeks free Insurance and our Adoption Contract.
If you feel you could offer this lovely girl the active, fun life she enjoys please contact us.
