Beautiful Jet has just turned 5 years of age she is a bright, intelligent girl who was adopted just over a year ago to a family with two children and has been happy. But recently Jet has taken a disliking to the visiting spaniel and now isn’t a fan of some other small dogs. The children’s care taker owns the dog which is making things very difficult for the family.
Jet has attended training classes with her original owners and her current owner and she’s really enjoyed it, she has engaged in lots of different activities such as gundog classes as part of the GSP Yorkshire group, scentwork modules 1-5, canicross. She loves walking and adventures and has completed Scafell pike, Helvellyn, Snowdonia to name a few. Jet loves nothing more than to snuggle on the sofa with her owners after an adventure or a fun walk.
Jet is a typical GSP (likes to be involved in everything, and excitable at times)
While with her first owner Jet was routinely walked by a dog walker with a group of dogs, she also attended doggy day care and stayed with a home boarder while they were on holidays.
Jet is recall trained to a whistle and loves to engage in games on walks, eg search and find it for treats or dummy or ball. Jet can become bored if not engaged with on walks but loves retrieving her dummy or ball.
Jet’s energy reflects her environment, so if everyone is calm around her she is placid and relaxed. However, when the environment changes either by visitors or noise she reacts with it.
Her current owners say that she can be reactive towards some dogs if not properly introduced, they have used many distraction techniques to walk past other dogs, which are effective but unsure on when she will react. Introduction to other family dogs have worked very well in neutral territory such as dog parks.
Jet has not had much contact with any cats so her reactions are unknown. She’s often walked in local pastures containing livestock- cows primarily, happily plays with a ball off lead around them, she is always put on lead in close proximity but they have never seen a reaction from her.
She does feel anxious and fusses small children jumping up at them on occasion which does cause the children to worry but does play and cuddle happily with their 8 year old but often finds them an easy source of food. Whilst at home they have taught her the word ‘place’ which she understands to sit on a mat and wait for some kibble. This has allowed people to enter and exit the house calmly. Previously she would bark when getting ready to leave the house.
To restrict the counter surfing and jumping up at our youngest while eating at the dinner table at meal times, we learnt that Jet responds the best to having her rope lead on loose, around her neck to indicate to her that she is under control and laid in her bed next to the table.
When barking, Jet has been taught the word ‘quiet’ which she responds to well. When quiet she receives positive praise and kibble.
Jet is a neutered, healthy girl with upto date vaccinations, she is very good in the car and will happily travel in the boot. She can also travel in the front seat of the van with a seatbelt. When arriving at a destination Jet will begin to cry with excitement but throughout the journey is otherwise settled.
If you feel you could give this gorgeous girl who thrives off routine and needs mental work to feel content, as physical exercise alone isn't enough, someone able to set clear boundaries and expectations, but loving and fair, please contact us.
Jet is currently in the East Yorkshire area and will be rehomed with her 5 weeks free Agria Insurance and her Adoption Contract.
