If anyone deserves the chance of a happy ever after it’s this beautiful 3 year old little girl! She’s not a failed gundog, she’s the result of a failed gundog trainer!
Raven has been rescued by a very kind gentleman who can’t keep her long term because of his work and living commitments and we can’t thank him enough for taking care of this sweet girl.
Now we are trying to help her by finding her the most suitable life moving forward!
Raven has lived a kennelled life with multiple other gundogs, she came from working bloodlines and has a very sweet nature. She’s currently living with a lovely male and loving his mentoring, company and his friendship, they have a lovely relationship growing.
Raven was fed the minimum amount that she could be, which we believe has resulted in coprophagia but as the Kennel Club says it’s a natural behaviour learned from puppies mothers and by hungry dogs.
Her current owner has been building her calorie intake up and feeding her a much better diet to start to help with this, but it’s not an instant fix because it’s been a need and a learned behaviour.
Raven is also learning that shes allowed to go to the toilet outside her kennel but this will need to be an ongoing process when she moves into a home and for a while it’s going to be like toilet training a new puppy, so ideally someone who can let her out after every meal, sleep, playtime etc and celebrate her with praise and treats/rewards when she does go outside 🎉
She loves retrieving a ball so that could be a great reward and training tool with her moving forward.
She’s going to be desperate to bond with new owners for self preservation so could be clingy and even show signs of separation anxiety in the early days, leaving doors shut between her and owners and time apart from the start (even for a few minutes) will help Raven understand that it’s fine to have alone time.
Her current owner has started to crate train her so that would be a great way to give her safe alone time, she loves a tasty bone in her crate so is already starting to think of it as a great place.
Out on walks she can be boisterous on first meeting new dogs but soon adapts and settles, she hasn’t met any cats so her reactions are unknown. She’s seen livestock while on lead and was interested and unsure, but her reactions off lead are unknown. She’s walked on a collar and lead her recall is poor if she is on a scent or distracted by another person or dog but she does try hard and wants to please. She has responded to a whistle for recall but this will need reinforcing for a stronger result.
She hasn’t been around children so careful introductions would be needed.
She’s a great traveler and sleeps comfortably with no issues.
Her current owner explains, Raven is rather typical for her likes, Loves attention and people and a lot of comfort. Food & Scent – especially Deer & Hares.
She dislikes water unless she is re-familiarised with it then becomes less of an issue for her. Dislikes the cold weather resulting in her not wanting to come out, Dislikes being left behind especially if other dogs have been let out, this will result in constant barking and stress.
Gorgeous Raven is currently in the Aberdeenshire and will be rehomed with her 5 weeks free Agria Insurance and her Adoption Contract.
Please contact us if you feel that you could give this sweet girl the life she deserves.
