Trevor

Origin: UK / Age: 5 Years

November 2025

Handsome Trevor turns 5 years in November, his owners have made the decision to find him a new home because they explain that he has began to show more and more signs of aggression towards them. It started with food guarding as a puppy, where they managed this by not going near him while he was eating which worked very well and has progressed to the point where he recently showed aggression for attempting to have his slip lead removed.
They have two young children, and with the unpredictable nature of his aggression they feel is too much of a risk around them. They say that generally, he is a very energetic, fun, healthy boy. Being a GSP he of course loves being outside and going on long walks. However, he does not like water. He won’t even step in a puddle. As a result of this, he does not like being bathed or even wiped down with a cloth or towel and will show aggression if you attempt it. He has been taught to dry his paws on a towel after his walk by circling and doing a little wipe which he does happily. He always comes back from his stays at the kennels bathed and we’re not quite sure how they manage it.
He loves chewing, we constantly have a big antler or piece of coffee wood on the go for him, and he’ll happily lay on his bed and chew for a very long time. He is such a big character and very smart and loves practising commands and has all the basics down really solidly. He generally loves being around people and meeting new people. He will also sit at curbs before crossing the road if you stop with him. He is for the most part just a really happy and excitable dog. He is extremely goofy, and will usually chase his tale for a solid 10mins before settling down with us for the evening. He loves carrots and will do anything for one. Also he knows the specific sound of a carrot being peeled, and will sit and wait for the peel.
His major dislike is being handled it seems. Grooming, cleaning, putting a ‘spot on’ flea killer on him etc… will all trigger aggression. What we’ve found helps in day to day situations, is keeping everything bouncy and fun, then it tends to distract him. At the vets they muzzle him, he visits for his annual vaccinations, he really enjoys seeing all the staff and having treats and a fuss made of him, but gets worried when a vet starts to check him over and handle him. He is not yet neutered and this would be done at a time to suit Trevor.
He has full run of downstairs with constant access to the garden via a dog flap in the kitchen and he enjoys popping out to give his opinion when the local dogs are all having a good barking session.
He hasn’t been walked by a dog walker but loves meeting new people while out on his walks. Meeting other dogs his owners say that they don’t understand which dogs he likes and which he doesn’t,
at the kennels they have told his owners that they paired him up for walks/play with a dog of a similar size and energy level and he loved it. They think he likes dogs around his size and bigger and that match his energy. But again, showing his unpredictability when it comes to aggression, there is no way to be sure. Sometimes he just seems to randomly choose to not be nice. We keep him on lead or take him to a secure field for off lead time which he loves.
Around cats he is curious and would definitely chase given the chance. They say that with livestock he could be the same, but they aren’t 100% sure.
Around small children he is very tolerable of their two young children (2 and 4). He often wants to join in and run around with them. But this then almost always results in someone being knocked over or stood on etc… Due to his escalating displays of aggression though, we are reluctant to give any freedoms around the children now. With older children we think he would probably be fine if they understand the boundaries.
We keep him on lead or take him to a secure field for off lead time. His Go/Permission release is a verbal double click. He loves being in the car and stares out of the window.
If you feel that you can give Trevor the training that he enjoys along with the fun life that he loves please contact us.
Trevor is currently in the Bristol area and will be rehomed with his 5 weeks free Agria Insurance.
